Union + Co's Lunch + Learns are free, monthly events open to members of our coworking, private office, and artist studio space, and to the general public. Credit Pathways Program at Morse High School

Abigail Baker + Georgie Bunker, Founders

Abby Baker and Georgie Bunker started the Credit Pathways Program at Morse High School two years ago. The mission of the Credit Pathways Program is to provide students with an alternative educational setting that fosters personal growth, academic achievement, career exploration, and community engagement. Through interdisciplinary, project-based learning, CPP provides a learning environment that honors each individual’s needs, promotes growth and opportunity, and forges a path to graduation and future aspirations.

MIDCOAST YOUTH CENTER:

Tim Wylie (he/him) is the Associate Director of Midcoast Youth Center and Skate Park, supporting MYC’s program and support systems from the youth center itself, to the transitional housing as well as a number of programs supporting students in and out of the school environment. Tim is also the acting cohort manager for 4 groups of RSU1 students in MYC’s Waypoint program, a 6 year mentorship program where students explore topics from character building to college and career readiness.

Brightfield School for Place-Based Education - started in August 2023 - Brightfield inspires joy, curiosity and a love of learning through meaningful engagement with the natural world and local community. Students learn to become stewards of the land while practicing compassion for nature, themselves and each other. We prioritize academic excellence and social-emotional learning in small-sized, mixed-age classrooms. Students are outside on a daily basis enjoying the beauty of the Whiskeag Trails and visiting many Bath resources.

Katie Mathews is the 5/6 teacher who loves going on adventures with curious and fun-spirited kids. She has designed theme studies around sustainable clothing and Arctic Indignity today and Salt Marsh exploration. Her enthusiasm for outdoors and place-based education is contagious.

BATH AT PLAY: Dr. John Byram, an Audiologist and now stay-at-home father of 4, founded the nonprofit organization Bath at Play with Chris Zilich and Adam Keller in 2022. Bath at Play's founding came out of a desire to help facilitate and expand community play spaces in Bath and the surrounding Midcoast Maine region. We aim to empower Maine communities through dynamic and inclusive play by funding, establishing, and maintaining privately funded community play spaces for Maine’s current and future generations.

ReVision Energy's Solar Designer Chris Jones provided an overview of all things solar + storage! Chris will discuss how grid-tied solar works, the all-electric household model (including heat pumps, EV charging, and Battery Storage), and explain how ReVision designs and prices systems.

The cost of solar panels has dropped 75% in the past 10 years, and there's still a 30% Federal Tax Credit for solar. Explore solar energy and bring your ideas & questions to this interactive discussion about all things solar.

Growing Pains? Labor law getting you down? It is hard enough to run a business and then you add employees! Amy Dietrich, Attorney and shareholder with the firm Skelton, Taintor & Abbott gave an excellent overview of the ins and outs of hiring employees and contractors. Amy is an expert in employment and labor law issues and her discussion was important for folks whether they are hiring their first or 10th employee.

Every year Americans gather around a feast of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and cranberry sauce on the fourth Thursday of November. But how did these "traditional" foods end up on the table? Are they reflective of the supposed First Thanksgiving of 1621? And when did dishes like candied yams, green bean casserole, and ambrosia enter the scene?

Maya led an exploration of the culinary origins of Thanksgiving and discover the history of the most popular dishes of this food-centered holiday.  Participants received historic and modern recipes to try out at home.

Maya Rook of Illusory Time is a historian, educator, and yoga instructor residing in Mid-Coast Maine. Through events designed for the general public, Maya utilizes a unique approach to history that blends critical insight with humor and empathy. She breathes new life into the past while making history accessible, relevant, and fun.

#2: Economic Forecast/Outlook Using the "Yield Curve" - A Real Estate Perspective

Maine Realty Advisors spread some market research, analyses, and forecasting in Bath during the Lunch + Learn event. MRA is working closely with Union + Co, to expand our great mission of encouraging local economic and community development. The presentation focused on the yield curve which is a hot topic in the financial media space. Frank Carr from MRA spoke about a basic method to discover, read, and interpret the yield curve data for individual analysis. Particular emphasis pointed out the recent "inversion" in the yield curve and what that forecasts for the economy on a macro basis. MRA discussed the yield curve’s application to the real estate space and how MRA guides various clients thorough phases of the economy.
